Boca St. Michiel (St. Michiels Baai)
In de volksmond Boca Sami genoemd, is een klein vissersdorpje midden op het eiland. Je proeft hier nog het authentieke Curaçao.
Popularly called Boca Sami , is a small fishing village in the middle of the island. You can still taste the authentic Curaçao here.

Goats, chickens, and sometimes pigs, roam the streets.
Aan het dorpspleintje zit een Snèk. (Een snèk is een soort snackbar in combinatie met een open lucht kroeg) Veel lokalen zijn hier te vinden om de dag af te sluiten met bekenden uit de buurt en een ijskoude polar. Vooral in het weekend is het `s avonds druk. De straat wordt dan versperd door alle auto`s die er geparkeerd staan en het is meestal gezellig. Iedereen hangt bij zijn auto of zit op het dorpsplein met een biertje of iets sterkers.
There is a Snèk at the village square. (A snèk is a kind of snack bar in combination with an open air pub) Many locals can be found here to end the day with acquaintances from the neighborhood and an ice-cold polar. It is especially busy in the evenings on weekends. The street is then blocked by all the cars that are parked there and it is usually pleasant. Everyone hangs out by their car or sits in the village square with a beer or something stronger.
Beaches
Boca Sami heeft twee stranden.
Het kleine, idyllische strandje Snake Bay is 5 minuten lopen vanaf de accommodatie. Je hebt het regelmatig helemaal voor jezelf. Het water is hier prachtig blauw en helder en je kunt redelijk makkelijk de zee in. Op het strand is verder niets te vinden, behalve 2 kleine parasols van palmbladeren. Het is een heerlijk plekje om `s morgens of `s avonds even een duik te nemen of te snorkelen. Voor een hele stranddag is het wat klein. De naam snake bay – is ontstaan doordat hier regelmatig een soort paling in het water gespot wordt. Daarnaast wordt het ook wel Playa Wachi genoemd.

Boca Sami has two beaches.
The small, idyllic beach Snake Bay is a 5-minute walk from the accommodation. You often have it all to yourself. The water here is beautifully blue and clear and you can enter the sea fairly easily. There is nothing else to be found on the beach, except 2 small umbrellas made of palm leaves. It is a wonderful place to take a dip or snorkel in the morning or in the evening. It is a bit small for a whole day at the beach. The name snake bay - originated because a type of eel is regularly spotted in the water here. In addition, it is also called Playa Wachi.

Het tweede en grotere strand van Boca Sami, ligt wat meer bij de dorpskern. (Ongeveer twintig minuten lopen vanaf de accommodatie.)
Het is recent opgeknapt en er staan nu wat parasols en picknick tafels. In het weekend is het er redelijk druk, omdat het strand vooral bezocht wordt door de lokale bevolking, maar door de week is het meestal rustig.
Dat komt ook omdat het een ankerplaats is voor schepen die te groot zijn voor de haven van Willemstad. Als er geen schip ligt is het echt een mooi gratis strandje, maar ligt er wel een schip dan is het uitzicht een stuk minder idyllisch, maar soms wel interessant ;-). Voor snorkelen en duiken is het een goeie plek. er zijn vaak schildpadden te zien. Aan de andere kant van de weg is ook een douche.
The second and larger beach of Boca Sami is located a little closer to the village center. (About a twenty minute walk from the property.)
It has recently been refurbished and there are now some umbrellas and picnic tables. At the weekend it is fairly busy, because the beach is mainly visited by locals, but during the week it is usually quiet.
That is also because it is an anchorage for ships that are too large for the port of Willemstad. If there is no ship it is really a nice free beach, but there is a ship then the view is a lot less idyllic, but sometimes interesting ;-). It is a good place for snorkeling and diving. turtles can often be seen. There is also a shower on the other side of the road.
Diving
Boven het strand, aan de straat, zit een een van de beste duikscholen van Curaçao. Dive Wederfoort Je kunt daar eens een proefduik proberen, je Padi halen of alleen lucht en een uitrusting huren (is daar goedkoop).
Above the beach, on the street, is one of the best diving schools in Curaçao. Dive Wederfoort You can try a test dive there, get your Padi or just rent air and equipment (it's cheap there).
Restaurants
Er zijn twee restaurantjes in het dorp. "Diverse sauzen" waar je heerlijke verse vis, maar ook allerlei andere gerechten kunt eten. En "The Niffo Huts" achter de parkeerplaats. Beide Restaurants zijn ieder dag geopend van 12 uur `s middags tot 10 uur `s avonds.
There are two restaurants in the village. "Diverse sauzen" where you can eat delicious fresh fish, but also all kinds of other dishes. And "The Niffo Huts" behind the parking lot. Both Restaurants are open every day from 12 noon to 10 o'clock in the evening.
Fort st. Michiel
Dit is een van de acht forten op het eiland. Het ligt nabij de ingang van de baai op de zuidoever en is waarschijnlijk in 1701 gebouwd. Samen met eenzelfde geschut batterij aan de noordkant beschermde het de toegang tot de baai.
This is one of eight fortresses on the island. Located near the entrance to the bay on the south bank, it was probably built in 1701. Together with the same gun battery on the north side, it protected the entrance to the bay.
Hikes
Vanaf de saliña (Een saliña is een zoutmeer of -inham die door een dam van dood koraal afgesloten is van de zee) van Boca sami kun je ook prachtige wandelingen maken:
Als je de auto op de parkeerplaats achter het strand neerzet, kun je vandaaruit links over het bruggetje en dan gelijk links naar boven klimmen. Er is een soort van pad, dat niet echt makkelijk begaanbaar is, maar dit is dan ook gelijk het lastigste stukje van de wandeling. daarna vervolg je gemakkelijk het pad waarbij je eerst een prachtig uitzicht op de saliña hebt en daarna over de zee.Na een wandeling van ongeveer vijfentwintig minuten kom je uit bij "Kokomo Beach" Daar kun je dan een drankje en/of duik nemen en daarna weer terug wandelen.

If you park your car in the parking lot behind the beach, you can go from there to the left over the bridge and then immediately climb up to the left. There is a kind of path, which is not really easy to pass, but this is also the most difficult part of the walk. then you easily continue the path where you first have a beautiful view of the saliña and then over the sea. Je kunt vanaf dezelfde parkeer- plaats ook een rondje om de saliña lopen waar je veel flamingo`s en andere watervogels zult zien. Bij hoog water krijg je wel natte voeten en je moet een stukje over de rotsen klauteren maar dat is goed te doen. Een rondje om de saliña loop je in ongeveer een uur. Het is ook mogelijk om de berg mee te pakken maar dan is de wandeling wel een stuk uitdagender.
